Chiropractor arrested

JEFFERSON - Police have arrested a local chiropractor on charges of child molestation and aggravated sexual battery for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old patient during an appointment.

Luis E. Berbessi, 50, of Jefferson, surrendered Tuesday morning at the Jackson County Jail, according to Jefferson Police Chief Joe Wirthman. He was released on $40,000 bond that afternoon.

The teen's allegations stem from an appointment she had with the chiropractor Feb. 2. Her father filed a report with the Jefferson Police Department shortly after 8 the next morning, saying Berbessi had touched his daughter inappropriately.

Jefferson detectives have spent the past eight days investigating the allegations and Berbessi's story. They secured arrest warrants for him last Thursday, Wirthman said.

Wirthman would not say how long the girl had been visiting the chiropractor, or if he is suspected of more inappropriate touching. No other victims have come forward
